what does fostering mean

Fostering means temporarily caring for a dog until it finds a permanent home. You become a bridge between the shelter and the dog’s future family.

Why Foster a dog?

  • Save lives: Shelters often have limited space
  • Help dogs adjust: They learn how to live in a home
  • Test compatibility: Great if you’re considering adopting later
  • Emotional reward: You see real transformation

🏡 What Do Foster Parents Do?

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Feeding and daily care
  • Basic training (toilet training, manners)
  • Socialising the dog with people/pets
  • Transporting to vet visits (usually covered by the rescue)
  • Sharing updates/photos to help adoption

⏳ How Long Do You Foster?

  • A few days (emergency fostering)
  • A few weeks to months (most common)
  • Until adoption (varies depending on the dog)

💸 Costs & Support

Most rescue organisations provide:

  • Food
  • Vet care
  • Supplies (sometimes)

You usually provide:

  • Time
  • Love
  • A safe home
